ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team opened play Saturday in the Fisher Invite with a 3-0 loss to tournament-host St. John Fisher, 3-0.
The Cardinals, ranked No. 14 in the most recent NVA/AVCA Division III Coaches Poll, won in straight sets: 25-17, 25-13, 25-13.
JC Govannucci (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) led the Tomcats with nine kills while
Brandon Millias (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse ) recorded 15 assists, five kills and three digs.
Ethan Cooper (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) contributed seven digs while
Jacob Smeltzer (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) tallied four kills and a pair of blocks.
Josh Bigford and Jake Baker led the Cardinals with 14 kills apiece. Paul Hackford led all players in assists (36) and digs (11).
The Tomcats will conclude play in the Fisher Invite Sunday. Thiel will face SUNY Poly at 11 a.m. and Rutgers-Newark at 1 p.m.
