GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Geneva Golden Tornadoes defeated the Thiel Tomcats on Saturday at Alumni Stadium, 57-20.
The Tomcats held strong, keeping the game scoreless through the first quarter. But, Geneva would get on the board early in the second quarter on a two-yard run by Gino Mavero to give the Golden Tornadoes a 7-0 lead.
Mavero would rush for his second touchdown on the next Geneva drive, punching it in from six-yards out to increase the Geneva lead to 14-0.
Geneva quarterback Brutus Ogilvie rushed for two more touchdowns and threw another to give the Golden Tornadoes a 34-0 lead at halftime.
Ogilvie went 4-of-7 for 202 yards and two touchdowns, including a 68-yard touchdown pass to Logan Kent late in the second quarter.
The Tomcats would get on the board on the opening drive of the second half when
Zech Sanderson (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) found
Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) for a 68-yard touchdown pass.
For the Tomcats, Sanderson earned his first start, throwing for 273 yards on 17-of-36 passing.
Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) led the Tomcats with 76 yards on three catches. Senior Donnavan Blue led the Tomcats with six receptions. Senior
Donny Pattison (Bradford, Pa./Bradford Area) had one catch for 53 yards and a touchdown. Logan also led the Tomcats with 62 rushing yards.
Defensively for the Tomcats, senior
Joe Stoutamire (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) led the team with nine tackles.
Caleb Shuler (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) recorded seven tackles.
Darnell Jordan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Westinghouse),
Andrew Plowden (Homewood, Pa./Penn Hills Charter) and
Jordan Volpe (Sharon, Pa./Sharon) all recorded five tackles a piece.
Jared Curcio (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) and
Chad Morningstar (Saxton, Pa./Tussey Mountain) combined for a sack.
For the Golden Tornadoes, Gabe Trexler lead the Golden Tornadoes with eight tackles. Brandon Graham also had two tackles and two pass breakups.
Prior to the game, Thiel's Jordan, Pattison, Plowden, Stoutamire, Blue,
Bill McCready III (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding),
Jarren Daniels (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance),
Dominick Knierman (Espyville, Pa./Conneaut Area) and Volpe were honored during Senior Day.
The Tomcats will conclude their season when they travel to Grove City for the 38
th edition of the Mercer County Cup. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
