GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team outlasted the Grove City Wolverines 3-2 Tuesday to improve to 2-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play.
In a back-and-forth match, the Tomcats won sets two (25-22), four (25-20) and five (15-10). Grove City held a 5-0 lead in the fifth set, but Thiel stormed back and took its first lead, 8-7, on a block by
Maria Torres (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) and
Cassandra Bown (Broadalbin, N.Y./Broadalbin-Perth).
Torres recorded four of her match-best 17 kills down the stretch in the fifth set, including the match-clinching 15
th point. Torres also recorded 17 digs and three blocks.
Raquel McDonald (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes), who owned an attack percentage of .429 on the night, tallied 10 kills and three blocks.
Kylee Eaton (Parker, Pa./AC Valley) contributed 10 digs and seven kills while Bown led all players with seven blocks to go along with six kills.
Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kansas/Mineral Ridge) tallied a match-high 32 digs while
Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa. /Grove City Area) handed out a match-best 45 assists. Reynolds also had 15 digs and six blocks.
Anna DeGraaf paced Grove City with 13 kills and eight digs. Audrey Donnelly tallied 10 kills.
Winners of four of their last five matches, the Tomcats (9-7, 2-0 PAC) will host the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (2-15, 0-2 PAC) Thursday at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium. The PAC match will begin at 7 p.m.
