GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team lost a non-conference match 3-1 Wednesday to the Carnegie Mellon Tartans at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Thiel opened the contest with a 27-25 win in the first set. Carnegie Mellon, who received 37 votes in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Coaches Poll, went on to win the next three sets (25-22, 29-27, 25-10) to win the match.
Maria Torres (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman), who owned an attack percentage of .436 on the night, led the Tomcats with a career-high 26 kills and 18 digs.
Erica Gregory (Clinton Township, Mich./Fraser) tallied 11 kills while
Brooke Talbot (Calcutta, Ohio/Beaver Local) contributed 22 assists, six kills and six digs.
Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kansas/Mineral Ridge) registered 21 digs and recorded her 1,000
th career assist.
Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa. /Grove City Area) had 23 assists and seven digs.
Jane Dean and Elizabeth Schlemmer led Carnegie Mellon's attack with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Stella Yan handed out 60 assists while Abby Chen tallied 30 digs.
The Tomcats (15-9, 6-0 PAC), who have won 10 of their last 13 matches, will host the Bethany Bison (11-11, 3-3 PAC) Friday. The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match will begin at 6:30 p.m.
