Tomcats face Soaring Eagles, Yellow Jackets in tri-match

BEREA, Ohio – The Thiel College men's volleyball team lost a pair of non-conference matches on the road Sunday to the Elmira Soaring Eagles and the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets.
 
Thiel fell to Elmira 3-1 and Baldwin Wallace 3-0.
 
Elmira won the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-17. Thiel won 25-22 in the third set but fell 25-15 in the fourth frame.
 
Zac Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) led Thiel against Elmira with eight kills and four digs. Colton Greenlee (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) recorded six blocks, five kills and four digs. JC Govannucci (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) tallied five blocks, five kills and three digs. Brandon Millias (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse ) handed out 19 assists while also registering six digs.
 
Eric Jackson led the Soaring Eagles with 13 kills and eight digs.
 
Baldwin Wallace won in straight sets, 26-24, 25-18, 25-20.
 
Govannucci paced the Tomcats against the Yellow Jackets with eight kills and three digs. Greenlee notched six kills while Jake Dies (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) recorded five kills and a pair of digs. Millias tallied 26 assists.
 
Michael Devlin led the Yellow Jackets with nine kills and seven digs. Michael Beard registered eight kills and five digs.
 
The Tomcats will host the Penn State Behrend Lions Tuesday at Beeghly Gymnasium. The non-conference match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
