GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College wrestling team improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) with a 42-6 win over the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets Friday night at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Austin Bonacci (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin),
Devyn Giovengo (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour),
Logan Long (North Bend, Pa./Central Mountain) and
Dylan Proper (Titusville, Pa./Maplewood) were honored during Senior Night prior to the match.
Evan Whiteside (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) got the Tomcats started when he pinned William Wilson in 51 seconds in the 125-pound match. Long won in 22 seconds over Esdras Castillo in the 149-pound bout while
Alexander Anderson (Warren, Pa./Warren) turned Kyle Hinerman in 2:46 at 157.
At 174,
Frank Gill (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) won by fall over Bill Simpson in 1:17.
Braydon Herbster (Linesville, Pa./Reynolds) tallied Thiel's final pin (1:28) at 197 over Josh Kumer.
Giovengo and
Peyton Hearn (Conneaut, Pa./Conneaut Area) also recorded decision wins for the Tomcats. At 141, Giovengo won 7-6 over Damion Finnegan. Hearn topped Seth Evans 7-0 at 165.
The Tomcats will compete in the Jamestown Community College Open on Sunday. The PAC Championships will be held Saturday, February 12 at Waynesburg University.
