ANGOLA, Ind. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team opened its season Sunday with a 3-1 non-conference win on the road over the Trine Thunder.
After falling in the first set (23-25), the Tomcats won three straight sets (25-18, 25-22, 28-26) to earn the victory.
Zac Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) led the Tomcats with a match-high 19 kills to go along with eight digs. Freshmen
JC Govannucci (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) and
Jake Dies (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) contributed 13 kills apiece. Govannucci also contributed 13 digs while Dies led the Tomcats with an attack percentage of .409.
Brandon Millias (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse ) led all players with 49 assists and also recorded seven digs.
Ted Hofmesiter paced the Thunder with 16 kills and 14 digs.
The Tomcats will face the Elmira Soaring Eagles on Saturday. The neutral site game will be played at Baldwin Wallace University at 5 p.m.
