Tomcats fall to Yellow Jackets

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on the road Saturday to the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets, 52-14.
 
The Yellow Jackets scored on their opening possession on a 6-yard run by Justin Flack, which capped off a 9-play drive that covered 66 yards in 5:14.
 
The Tomcats tied up the game on their next possession when Owen Trumbull (Bear Lake, Pa./Eisenhower) connected with Justin Logan (North Chesterfield, Va./James River) on an 18-yard touchdown pass. The drive covered 65 yards, took six plays and was keyed by a 46-yard run by Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) on a second-and-six play from Thiel's 39-yard line.
 
Waynesburg added 10 more points before halftime on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Raines to Trenton Kerns and a 35-yard field goal by Keegan Raabe. The Yellow Jackets scored three more touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 38-7 lead.
 
Thiel's second touchdown came early in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard run by Marlon Brown (White Plains, Md./St. Charles).
 
Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) led Thiel on the ground with 113 yards on 13 carries. Trumbull ran nine times for 53 yards.
 
Trumbull completed eight passes for 109 yards with one touchdown. Alexander Kovalyak (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) completed six passes for 75 yards. Donnovan Blue (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) caught three passes for 55 yards.
 
Raines completed 17 passes, four of which were touchdown throws, for 325 yards. Flack ran for 177 yards and a pair of scores on 27 totes. Dakota Romantino caught six passes for 187 yards and one touchdown.
 
Darnell Jordan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Westinghouse) led Thiel on defense with nine tackles. Tom Hanik led Waynesburg with seven tackles while Samuel Hamilton recorded three sacks.
 
The Tomcats will host the Saint Vincent Bearcats next Saturday at Alumni Stadium. Kickoff for the PAC game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
