Retired Sergeant First Class Mike Mason served as Thiel’s honorary captain on Saturday. A Reynolds High School graduate, he completed four combat tours in Afghanistan. Mason has served as the Manager of Audio and Visual Systems at Thiel since 2014.

13th-ranked Presidents defeat Tomcats

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The 13th-ranked Washington & Jefferson Presidents defeated the Thiel Tomcats 64-12 at Alumni Stadium Saturday.
 
Justin Heacock completed 9-of-11 passes for 148 yards and one touchdown for the Presidents while Colton Jones connected on 11-of-14 passes for 120 yards and one touchdown.
 
EJ Thompson led W&J on the ground with 59 yards and two scores on seven carries. Joey Koroly ran for 53 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.
 
Cameron O'Brien caught four passes for 70 yards and a score for the Presidents. Payton Skalos caught three passes for 59 yards and one touchdown.
 
Both of Thiel's touchdowns were scored early in the fourth quarter. Owen Trumbull (Bear Lake, Pa./Eisenhower) scored on a 2-yard run while Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) scored on a 4-yard run.
 
Trumbull completed two passes for 36 yards. Alexander Kovalyak (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) also completed two passes for 32 yards.
 
Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) led the Tomcats on the ground with 38 yards on 16 carries. Justin Logan (North Chesterfield, Va./James River) caught five passes for 46 yards while Jake Reddick (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) caught two passes for 31 yards.
 
Justin Johns recorded five tackles for W&J and scored a touchdown on a 32-yard interception return.
 
Darnell Jordan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Westinghouse) led Thiel with nine tackles. He also forced a fumble and broke up a pass.
 
The Tomcats will take on the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets on the road next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
