GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team opened the 2021 season Wednesday night with a 3-0 loss to the Penn State Behrend Lions at Beeghly Gymnasium.
 
The Tomcats fell by scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-20.
 
Outside hitter Maria Torres (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) led Thiel's attack with 10 kills. Kylee Eaton (Parker, Pa./AC Valley) and Raquel McDonald (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) chipped in with six and five kills, respectively. Danielle Aulet (Austintown, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) handed out 17 assists while recording 10 digs. Erica Gregory (Clinton Township, Mich./Fraser) led Thiel with 13 digs.
 
Hannah Phillips and Brooke Joncas led the Lions with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Cara Zollars registered 20 digs.
 
The Tomcats will compete in the Mount Union Invitational this Friday and Saturday. On Friday, Thiel will face Carnegie Mellon at 3 p.m. and Wooster at 5 p.m.
