GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team lost both games of a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader, 9-7 (seven innings) and 1-0, against the Bethany Bison on Thursday.
In game one, the Tomcats took an early 3-0 lead until the Bison scored five unanswered runs to take a 5-3 lead entering the sixth inning. The Tomcats came back and took a 7-5 lead, but in the top of the seventh, the Bison scored four runs of their own and held on to win 9-7.
In game two, Thiel starter
Sante Carducci (Toronto, Ohio/Toronto) and Bethany starter Mark Lavezza dueled in a pair of complete games. The Bison scored the only run of the game in the top of the seventh.
For the Tomcats in game one,
Nash Matson (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) was a perfect 3-for-3 with two steals and an RBI.
Trey Williams (Jeromesville, Ohio/Hillsdale) had two doubles, a run and an RBI.
Anthony Sebastian (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) notched two RBIs and a run.
Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) started and allowed two runs in four innings, while striking out five.
Will Brandsema (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek) was charged with a loss in relief.
In game two, Carducci threw a complete game and allowed just four hits and one run, while striking out five.
Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) tallied a pair of hits and a stolen base. Matson added a hit and a steal.
For the Bison, Ethan Young, Colton Stoneman, and Kyle Goodwin had two RBIs each in game one. Lavezza tossed a complete game shutout with eight strikeouts.
The Tomcats conclude the season tomorrow with a doubleheader rematch against the Bison at Bethany. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
