GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team lost in both games of a doubleheader against the Washington and Jefferson Presidents. The Presidents won the first game, a Presidents' Athletic Conference contest, 17-2. The second game, a non-conference game, was also won by the Presidents, 12-2.
Huge innings were the story in both games. In game one, the Presidents had seven-run fourth and fifth innings. In game two, the game was tied 1-1 heading into the sixth inning when the Presidents plated 10 runs in the sixth inning.
The Tomcats were led by a three-hit day by
Trey Williams (Jeromesville, Ohio/Hillsdale), including a triple, a home run, two runs, and an RBI.
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) combined for 4-for-7 in both games.
Alec Gamble (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) hit an RBI-double in game one to score
Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley).
Jamin Wentling (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) hit an infield single to score Williams in game one.
Matt Hartzell (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) went 3-for-4 in game two.
Trey Williams (Jeromesville, Ohio/Hillsdale) and
Sante Carducci (Toronto, Ohio/Toronto) were charged with losses in game one and two, respectively.
Alex Lutz (Loveland, Ohio/Milford) pitched 4.1 innings, allowing just one run in game one.
The Presidents were led by a 7-for-8 day from Logan Scheider, with three doubles, five RBIs, and five runs. Tyler Horvat and Roman Samson each hit a home run in game one and game two, respectively. Nick Drake earned the win in game one and Mason Kolbe earned the win in relief in game two.
The Tomcats' next series, and final regular season series, will be against the Bethany Bison, with a doubleheader at home on Thursday and a doubleheader at Bethany on Friday. The start time for both doubleheaders is slated for 1 p.m.
