Tomcats battle Yellow Jackets

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team lost a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games Monday to the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets at Tomcat Park. Waynesburg won the first game 7-2 before winning 12-6 in the second game.

Waynesburg plated three runs in the top of the first inning of the first game. Thiel picked up a run in the bottom of the first to cut into the lead, but Waynesburg went on to score four more runs over the next four innings to hold a 7-1 lead.

Thiel scored the final run of the first game in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI-single by Riley Ladd (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) to center field.

Ali Arter (Johnstown, Ohio/Johnstown-Monroe) led the Tomcats at the plate in the first game with three singles. Kylee Yothers (Indian Head, Pa./Connellsville Area) and Ladd both recorded two singles apiece while Shay Tresler (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) doubled.

In the second game, Yothers scored the first run of the game in the first inning on a Waynesburg error. The Yellow Jackets got that run back in the second frame and scored two runs in the top of the third to hold a 3-1 lead.

The Tomcats surged ahead, 4-3, in the bottom of the third. Thiel picked up a run on a wild pitch and took the lead on 2-RBI double by Arter.

The Yellow Jackets tied up the game in the top of the fourth, but the Tomcats reclaimed the lead (6-4) in the bottom of the fourth. Thiel scored one run on a passed ball while the second run came on an infield hit by Tresler.

The Yellow Jackets earned the win with a seven-run effort in the fifth inning.

Tresler went 3-for-4 in the second game with one RBI. Arter went 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Yothers went 2-for-4 with a triple. Lindsey Durboraw (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) also collected two hits.

The Tomcats will face the Grove City Wolverines on the road Thursday. The first game of the PAC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
