GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team lost a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games Saturday to the Bethany Bison at Tomcat Park. Bethany won the first game 5-0 and the second game 14-5.
Mary Proper (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood),
Kylee Yothers (Indian Head, Pa./Connellsville Area),
Ali Arter (Johnstown, Ohio/Johnstown-Monroe),
Lauren Durboraw (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and
Shay Tresler (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) each recorded a single in the first game.
Josie Wise, who earned the win, allowed four hits in six innings with six strikeouts.
Kayla Roddy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) struck out eight batters in seven innings.
Bethany held a 6-0 lead midway through the third inning in the second game. Thiel responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.
Riley Ladd (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) drove in a run on a double to left field. Yothers brought in the second run on a single up the middle.
Bethany added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning, but Thiel came back with three runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the lead down to 8-5.
Melina Bufalini (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) hit a 2-RBI triple while Ladd drove in the third run on an infield hit.
Neither team scored in the fifth and sixth innings, but the Bison put the game away with six runs in the seventh inning.
Ladd and Bufalini led the Tomcats at the plate in Game 2. Ladd went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a double and a run scored. Bufalini went 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored.
The Tomcats will play the Chatham Cougars on the road Monday night. The first game of the PAC doubleheader will begin at 6:30 p.m.
