Cougars top Tomcats

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team lost a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games to the Chatham Cougars on the road Monday night. Chatham won the first game 6-2 and the second game 6-0.
 
Thiel plated a pair of runs in the second inning of Game 1. Shay Tresler (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) brought in a run on a fielder's choice while Casey Buechel (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes) drove in the second run on a single to left center field.
 
Chatham scored a run in the third and took the lead with a three-run effort in the fourth. The Cougars also added two insurance runs in the sixth.
 
Ali Arter (Johnstown, Ohio/Johnstown-Monroe) and Kayla Roddy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) both went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the first game. Roddy struck out four batters in six innings of work.
 
The Cougars led 4-0 after three innings in Game 2 and added two more runs over the fifth and sixth innings.
 
Lauren Durboraw (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) led the Tomcats with a double in the second game while Roddy singled.
 
Ashtin Kirkwood (Elderton, Pa./West Shamokin) struck out five batters in Game 2. She allowed five earned runs on five hits. Chatham's Kayla Gee tossed a 2-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
 
The Tomcats are scheduled to host the Geneva Golden Tornadoes on Wednesday. The first game of the PAC doubleheader is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
