WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team defeated the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets, 18-4, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Wednesday.
Early in the game, the Yellow Jackets and Thiel exchanged goals to bring the score to 1-1. The rest of the half was all Thiel, as the Tomcats scored 10 straight goals to take an 11-1 lead into halftime. The second half was more of the same as the Tomcats outscored the Yellow Jackets 7-3 en route to an 18-4 victory.
It was a strong team effort from the Tomcats as six different players scored multiple goals. Eight separate Tomcats recorded at least two points, with four tallying three or more points.
Mackenzie Quinn (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) led the Tomcats with four points on three goals and an assist.
Maddy Wightman (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) also notched three goals and added seven ground balls.
Ashlyn Wightman (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) and
Alex Geraci (Garrettsville, Ohio/Crestwood) each finished with two goals and an assist. Ashly Wightman also led the Tomcats with eight ground balls.
Emily Ramous (Bridgeville, Pa./Chartiers Valley) finished with two saves and just one goal allowed in the win.
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) took over in goal for the second half and saved three shots and allowed three goals.
For the Yellow Jackets, Eve O'Sullivan scored three goals and had an assist. Lily Portman also had a goal and an assist. Goaltender Riley Yoder saved nine shots in the contest.
The Tomcats' next game will be a PAC showdown at home against the Westminster Titans on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
