Tomcats come back to defeat Lady Barons

Ashlyn Whitman scores game-tying and game-winning goals

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team defeated the Franciscan Lady Barons on the road Saturday, 13-10.
 
The Tomcats erased a 9-8 halftime deficit to earn the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win. Grace Deegan scored 18 seconds into the second half to extend the Lady Barons' lead to 10-8, but the rest of the game belonged to the Tomcats, who went on to score five unanswered goals.
 
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) cut the lead down to 10-9 at the 25:51 mark. Ashlyn Wightman (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) scored the game-tying goal at 19:21 and the go-ahead goal at 17:15. Alex Geraci (Garrettsville, Ohio/Crestwood) and Johnson added insurance goals for the Tomcats down the stretch.
 
Ashlyn Wightman (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) led the Tomcats with five goals, five draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Johnson potted three goals while also recording three ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.
 
Also for Thiel, Maddy Wightman (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) scored two goals and recorded four draw controls while Geraci scored a pair of goals.
 
Deegan led the Lady Barons with seven points (4G, 3A). Blair Wonderly scored three goals while Maureen Cain tallied six draw controls.
 
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) made five saves in the second half to earn the win. Sam Callahan made seven saves for Franciscan.
 
The Tomcats (3-1, 1-1 PAC) will take on the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets on the road Wednesday. The PAC contest is set to begin at 6 p.m.
