JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – The Thiel College wrestling team earned a 27-16 non-conference win on the road Saturday over the Jamestown Community College Jayhawks. Thiel also competed against the Division II Gannon Golden Knights at the tri-match, which took place at Jamestown Community College.
After falling behind 12-3 to JCC, Thiel won five of the final six matches to earn a 27-16 win. Thiel earned bonus points in three of its final five wins.
Peyton Hearn (Conneaut, Pa./Conneaut Area) pinned Andrew Bungar in the 165-pound match in 5:49 while
Bryce McCloskey (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) pinned Jesse Storch in the 184-pound bout in 1:03.
Braydon Herbster (Linesville, Pa./Reynolds) also picked up a pin at 197 over Alex Christy (3:37).
The Tomcats won seven of 12 exhibition matches against the Gannon Golden Knights. Thiel earned bonus points in four of the seven matches. Herbster pinned Bret Huffman at 197 in 6:40 while
Logan Long (North Bend, Pa./Central Mountain) also won by fall at 157 over Jacob Onorato in 35 seconds.
Jake Alberts (Ellwood City, Pa./Lincoln) and
Hunter Martz (Hawthorn, Pa./Redbank Valley) also picked up bonus points against Gannon. At 141, Alberts won by major decision 11-2 over Constantine Gehring. Martz also won by major decision (9-1) over Anthony Corigliano at 149.
