STEUBENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's soccer team lost, 6-3, to the Franciscan Barons in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest on Wednesday.
In the first half, the Tomcats were held without a shot, while the Barons took a 3-0 lead. In the second half, the Barons added another goal to take a 4-0 lead. The Tomcats began to claw back, scoring two goals in less than seven minutes to bring the game to 4-2. The Barons added two more insurance goals and the Tomcats got a late goal to bring the final to 6-3.
For the Tomcats,
Evan Young (Bryans Road, Md./Henry E. Lackey) scored a goal and added an assist.
Andreas Hauge Jonassen (Stavanger, Nor/) also scored a goal. Off the bench,
Yuta Koike (Ichikawa, Jpn./) scored a goal assisted by
Garret Smith (Warren, Ohio/Mineral Ridge).
Devin Weisbarth (Akron, Ohio/Norton) saved seven shots and allowed six goals in the game.
The Barons were led by three goals and an assist from Sebastian Koehler. JP Bobak added a goal and an assist. Brian Gaughan allowed two goals and saved one in just over 75 minutes in the start.
The Tomcats' next game will be the home opener against the Bethany Bison next Wednesday. The game is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
