Lauren Durboraw leads Tomcats against Golden Tornadoes

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team dropped two non-conference games on the road to the Geneva Golden Tornadoes on Saturday. Geneva won the first game 11-0 before winning 9-3 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Shay Tresler (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) and Lauren Durboraw (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) led the Tomcats at the plate in the first game with two singles apiece. Ashtin Kirkwood (Elderton, Pa./West Shamokin) allowed one earned run on four hits with one strikeout in two innings of relief work.

Thiel fell behind 1-0 in the second game, but took the lead in the fourth when Durboraw hit a 2-run bomb over the center field fence.

The Golden Tornadoes reclaimed the lead (5-2) with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Thiel cut the lead down to 5-3 in the top of the sixth when Mary Proper (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood) hit an RBI-double to center field, but Geneva scored four more runs in the bottom of the inning to claim the win.

Durboraw hit a two-run homer in the second game while Casey Buechel (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes) and Proper doubled.

The Tomcats will play the Saint Vincent Bearcats on the road Monday. The first game of the non-conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
