GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson Presidents defeated the Thiel Tomcats in a men's lacrosse non-conference match, 12-5, Saturday afternoon.
 
In the first quarter, the Presidents and Tomcats traded early goals. With 1:03 left in the quarter, the Presidents caught fire, scoring three goals before the end of the quarter and another goal just nine seconds into the second quarter to take a 5-1 lead. The Presidents scored four more goals to take a 9-1 lead. The Tomcats tried to claw back, bring the score to 9-4 at halftime, but the Presidents held their lead throughout the second half.
 
The Tomcats were led by two goals apiece from Dan Senisi (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) and Pat Hartnett (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland). Hartnett also recorded an assist. Jeffrey Karnoff (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central) notched a goal and an assist. Dylan Waskiewicz (York, Pa./Red Lion) tallied two assists and three ground balls. Scott Van Iderstine (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Sheldon Bourdeau (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) led the Tomcats with five ground balls apiece. Van Iderstine chipped in an assist as well. Jason Masciantonio (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) totaled 15 saves in the contest.
 
The Presidents were led by five goals from Alex Strain. Brendan Tribeck and Carter Watts recorded two goals and two assists apiece. Henry Beardwood saved nine shots.
 
The Tomcats will look to get back in the win column when they kick off Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play against the Bethany Bison on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
