GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel men's volleyball team defeated the Hilbert Hawks, 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-10), in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) contest.
 
Before the game, Thiel seniors Jonathan Burkley (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) and Dakota Forrest (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) were recognized for their efforts and accomplishments on and off the court.
 
The two teams traded points and Hilbert got an early 2-1 lead in the first set. The Tomcats went on a six-point run to take a 7-2 lead and set the tone for the rest of the set and the match. The Tomcats also had a six-point run in the second set and a 10-point run in the third set to win both sets 25-10 and complete the sweep.
 
Three Tomcats tallied nine kills apiece, including Zac Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks), Burkley, and Jacob Smeltzer (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley). Smeltzer also led the game with 11 digs. Smith chipped in eight digs and four service aces. Forrest totaled six kills and seven digs. Nick Koorsen (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler Area) led the game with 26 assists.
 
For the Hawks, Dylan Suter and Marcus Wloch had four kills. Stephen Houghton finished with six assists and six digs.
 
The Tomcats will look to build on the win when they host the Hiram Terriers at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
