Titans top Tomcats

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team lost a pair of non-conference games to the Westminster Titans Friday at Tomcat Park. Thiel lost the first game 9-6 before falling 10-0 in the second game.
 
The Titans led 7-0 after four innings in the first game. Thiel cut the lead down to 7-6 with three runs in the fifth inning and three more runs in the sixth inning.
 
In the fifth, Kylee Yothers (Indian Head, Pa./Connellsville Area) pushed Thiel's first run across the plate on a single to right field. Ali Arter (Johnstown, Ohio/Johnstown-Monroe) also recorded an RBI-single in the fifth. Kayla Roddy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) and Yothers both went on to record RBI-singles for the Tomcats in the sixth.
 
Alex Yates secured the win for the Titans in the seventh on a 2-RBI triple to right field.
 
Roddy went 4-for-4 in the first game with one RBI. Yothers, Shay Tresler (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) and Mary Proper (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood) collected two hits apiece.
 
Mackenzie Latess went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Titans while Yates recorded two hits and four RBIs.
 
Madison Brown improved to 2-0 on the season. She allowed six hits while striking out seven batters.
 
In the second game, Westminster plated six runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth frame to earn a 10-0 win in five innings.
 
Leah Pancake led the Titans in the second game with two hits and two RBIs.
 
The Tomcats will take on the Franciscan Lady Barons on the road Saturday. The first game of the non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
