GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats men's basketball team fell 92-86 to the Geneva Golden Tornadoes in Saturday afternoon's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup.
The Tomcats got off to a strong start, leading 39-23, their largest lead of the game, with 4:43 left in the first half. The Golden Tornadoes responded with a 15-4 run to close out the half, cutting the Tomcats' lead to five (43-38).
Thiel came out firing again in the second half, leading 52-41 at the 17:12 mark. This was the largest lead for Thiel in the half as Geneva mounted a comeback, tying the game at 59-59. The teams exchanged buckets back and forth and ended up tied at 65-65. The Golden Tornadoes struck next on a layup with 10:29 remaining to take the lead and did not relinquish that lead for the remainder of the contest.
The Tomcats were led by
John Aarestrup (Miami, Fla./Archbishop Coleman Carroll), who recorded a career and game high 25 points. Aarestrup also led the game with a career high six three-pointers.
Ahmad Tejumola (Waldorf, Md./Saint Charles) netted his second double-double of the season with 17 points and led the game with 11 rebounds.
Andre Williams (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Boyd H. Anderson) led the contest with three blocks, which also tied his career high.
Kyiam Exum (Temple Hills, Md./Central) finished top on the team with seven assists.
The Golden Tornadoes were led by Amos Luptak and Joel Stutz, who recorded 23 and 22 points, respectively. Luptak also added a game high eight assists. Lyle Tipton led the contest with five steals and chipped in 14 points.
The Tomcats will look to shake off the loss as they travel to Steubenville to take on the Franciscan Barons on Monday. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
