GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats men's basketball team defeated the Franciscan Barons, 96-83, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game. This was the most points Tomcats' men's basketball has scored in a game since Jan. 5, 2017.
The game began close, with the two teams tied at 21 after eight minutes. The Tomcats broke the tie with two straight three-pointers, and never gave up the lead. In the second half, the Barons drew close with 10:18 left, bring the game to 70-69. However, the Tomcats outscored the Barons 26-14 the rest of the way to hang on and win.
Thiel was led by an efficient double-double by
Ahmad Tejumola (Waldorf, Md./Saint Charles), recording a game-leading 21 points on 9-12 shooting and 10 rebounds.
Daquan Simmons (Capitol Heights, Md./Central) scored a season high 17 points, including three three-pointers. Off the bench,
Chima Omeihe (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista Community) also recorded a double-double in just 15 minutes played. Freshman
Marlon Ellerbee (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill) reached double-digit points for the first time in his Thiel career, scoring 13 points in 16 minutes played.
The Barons were led by Josh Zimmerman's 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Barons also got double-digit points from Sean Hickey (19), Justin Mack (19), and Nicholas Allienello (18).
The Tomcats will look to win their second straight game as they host the Bethany Bison Wednesday at 6 p.m.
