GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats men's volleyball team lost its season opener Thursday to the Geneva Golden Tornadoes at Beeghly Gymnasium, 3-0.
The Golden Tornadoes won the first two sets (25-11, 25-11). In the third set, the Tomcats put up a strong effort, but Geneva held on to win the set (26-24).
Sophomore
Zac Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) led the Tomcats in kills and digs with eight and seven, respectively. Freshman
Nick Koorsen (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler Area) recorded a team-high 11 assists in his Tomcats debut. Senior
Dakota Forrest (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) added two service aces, a team and career high.
For Geneva, Peter Barbato led with 12 kills. Curtis Thomas led the game with 21 assists and chipped in eight digs.
The Tomcats' next game will be at Penn State Behrend on Wednesday, March 10
th at 7:00 p.m.
