GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats men's basketball team lost its season opener Wednesday to the Westminster Titans at Beeghly Gymnasium, 86-69.
Junior forward
Ahmad Tejumola (Waldorf, Md./Saint Charles) led the Tomcats with a career and game high 29 points. He made 11-of-15 shots from the floor, including four three-pointers. Senior
Daquan Simmons (Capitol Heights, Md./Central) and
Devin Christian (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) also chipped in with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Freshman
Marlon Ellerbee (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill) recorded a team-high five assists in his debut with the Tomcats.
The Tomcats trailed by just two points, 35-33, with 3:51 remaining in the first half. However, the Titans went on an 11-4 run to close out the half and never looked back.
The Titans were led by Isaac Stamatiades, who recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Tyler James also notched a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
The Tomcats will host the Saint Vincent Bearcats Saturday. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
