Tomcats pick up 10th PAC win in tri-match

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at Beeghly Gymnasium. Thiel won a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match 3-2 over the Saint Vincent Bearcats before losing a non-conference contest 3-2 to the Capital Comets.
 
Thiel won the first two sets against Saint Vincent 25-17 and 25-16. The Bearcats went on to win the next two sets 25-19 and 25-16. Thiel won 15-10 in the decisive fifth set.
 
Maria Torres (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) led the Tomcats against the Bearcats with 22 kills to go along with six digs and two blocks. Raquel McDonald (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) tallied 14 kills, five blocks and two digs. McDonald and Torres owned attack percentages against the Bearcats of .345 and .313, respectively.
 
Kylee Eaton (Parker, Pa./AC Valley) registered 14 digs and 13 kills against Saint Vincent while Danielle Aulet (Austintown, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) led all players with 55 assists while also contributing seven digs. Abby Triskett (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) had a match-high 26 digs. Erica Gregory (Clinton Township, Mich./Fraser) also chipped in with six kills and four digs.
 
Carly Augustine and Jessica Hughes led the Bearcats with 11 kills apiece. Stacie Ramos tallied 21 digs while Caitlyn Figuly recorded nine kills and seven blocks.
 
The Tomcats improved to 10-6 in PAC play with their win over the Bearcats.
 
Thiel won 25-11 in the first set against Capital before falling 27-25 in the second stanza. The Comets also won the third set, 25-20. Thiel forced a fifth set with a 25-18 win in the fourth frame. Capital eked out the win with a 15-9 victory in the fifth set.
 
Torres notched a match-high 20 kills in the non-conference loss while also recording 10 digs and three blocks. McDonald tallied eight kills and six blocks. Aulet dished out a match-best 45 assists while also coming up with 13 digs. Triskett led all players with 25 digs. Katie Stamp (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) and Madi Yurich (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) also chipped in with six kills apiece.
 
Alissa Holler led the Comets with 14 kills while Delanie Nahikian recorded 20 digs and nine kills. Jordyn Hoffman registered 42 assists and 11 digs.
 
Thiel has won nine of its last 13 matches. The Tomcats will face the Washington & Jefferson Presidents on the road Tuesday. The PAC match will begin at 7 p.m.
