24th-ranked Titans defeat Tomcats

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest to the 24th-ranked Westminster Titans Saturday at Alumni Stadium, 49-14.
 
Westminster opened up a 28-0 lead, but the Tomcats got on the scoreboard with 41 seconds remaining in the first quarter when Justin Logan (North Chesterfield, Va./James River) caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Alexander Kovalyak (DuBois, Pa./DuBois).
 
Linebacker Joe Stoutamire (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) set up the Kovalyak-to-Logan connection when he picked off a pass at the Westminster 35-yard line and returned the ball to the 28-yard line.
 
The Titans added 21 points in the second quarter to hold a 49-7 lead at halftime.
 
Thiel's final score came with 5:20 remaining in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard touchdown run by Kaleb Donor (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood). The touchdown run, Donor's first with the Tomcats, capped off a 6-play drive that covered 38 yards in just under three minutes.
 
Kovalyak completed eight passes on the day for 51 yards. Owen Trumbull (Bear Lake, Pa./Eisenhower) completed six passes for 48 yards.
 
Donnovan Blue (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) caught three passes for 17 yards while Keaton Baker (Salem, Ohio/United) pulled in three catches for 13 yards.
 
Cole Konieczka completed 10-of-15 passes for 165 yards for the Titans. He threw four touchdown passes and one interception. Lane Voytik also completed seven passes for 53 yards.
 
Vincent Giles ran for 40 yards on 10 carries for Westminster. Tylon Eilam recorded five catches for 33 yards.
 
Dominick Knierman (Espyville, Pa./Conneaut Area) led Thiel with 10 tackles, two of which were behind the line of scrimmage. Stoutamire made nine tackles, two of which were for a loss of yards. Stoutamire and Darien Mosley (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco H.S. & Center for the Arts) each recorded one interception. Jarren Daniels (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance), who made two tackles, recovered a fumble and picked up 57 yards on the return.
 
Luca Botti led Westminster with four tackles, one of which was behind the line of scrimmage. He also intercepted a pass and broke up a pass.
 
The Tomcats will face the Bethany Bison on the road next Saturday. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
