Bison best Tomcats

BETHANY, W.Va. – The Thiel Tomcats lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference game on the road Saturday to the Bethany Bison, 28-7.
 
After a scoreless first quarter, Bethany took the lead on a 61-yard pass from Dom Salinetro to Brennan Secrist. The Bison added to their lead early in the third quarter when Colton Stoneman scored on a 3-yard run.
 
Salinetro threw his second touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter, a 3-yarder to Trevon Dean, to give Bethany a 21-0 lead.
 
The Tomcats cut the lead down to 21-7 with 12:43 remaining in the fourth quarter when Chase Lawler (Etters, Pa./Red Land) scored a touchdown on a blocked punt. Thiel also blocked a pair of Bethany field goals on the day, one by Darnell Jordan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Westinghouse) and another by Donovan Lindsey (Fredericksburg, Va./James Monroe).
 
The Bison went on to secure the win with 9:25 to go when defensive back Qujuan McGlothin scored on a 30-yard pick-six.
 
Thiel running backs Tyler Maddox (Girard, Ohio/Girard) and Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) combined for 31 yards on 12 carries. Owen Trumbull (Bear Lake, Pa./Eisenhower) completed seven passes for 81 yards. Lawler led Thiel with four catches for 80 yards.
 
Salinetro completed 29-of-43 passes for 304 yards. He threw two touchdown passes. Secrist caught seven passes for 111 yards.
 
Linebacker Joe Stoutamire (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) led the Tomcats with 11 tackles, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery.
 
Rondell Lewis led Bethany with eight tackles, two of which were behind the line of scrimmage. Kejon Fraley made seven tackles and recorded 3.5 sacks.
 
The Tomcats will return to action Saturday, October 23 when they face Carnegie Mellon Tartans on the road. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
