Tomcats beat Fighting Muskies, 14-7

Sylvis, Raab combine for 6 goals

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team earned a 14-7 non-conference victory over the Muskingum Muskies Wednesday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
 
Muskingum held a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Muskingum went up 6-4 with roughly six minutes remaining in the second quarter, but Thiel went on to score four unanswered goals in less than three minutes to hold an 8-6 lead at the break.
 
Jeffrey Karnoff (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central) got the Tomcats started near the end of the first half when he scored during a man-advantage on a pass from Liam Stickle (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston). Stickle went on to score the equalizer with 44 seconds remaining in the first half.
 
With just 30 seconds remaining before halftime, Karnoff found the back of the net on an assist from Alex Andreozzi (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest). Nick Sylvis (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) closed out scoring in the first half 22 seconds later on an unassisted marker.
 
Both teams scored a goal in the third. The Tomcats went on to outscore the Fighting Muskies 5-0 in the fourth quarter.
 
Sylvis and JJ Raab (Butler, Pa./Butler) both scored three goals for the Tomcats. Stickle (2G, 1A) and Derrick Jackson (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) (1G, 2A) both notched three points. Karnoff and Dylan Waskiewicz (York, Pa./Red Lion) both netted a pair of goals. Jack Fontana (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted) won 18-of-21 faceoffs and tallied 14 ground balls.
 
Josh Fletcher paced Muskingum with three points (2G, 1A).
 
Cole O'Connor (Midlothian, Va./James River) made 20 saves to earn the win. Brandon Farley made 17 saves for Muskingum.
 
The Tomcats (1-2) will host the Hilbert Hawks Saturday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at noon.
