Tomcats battle with Cougars

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest 68-67 to the Chatham Cougars on Wednesday.

Ahmad Tejumola (Waldorf, Md./Saint Charles), Nyric Gosley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and Michael Ricks (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland School of Architecture and Design) combined for 10 of Thiel's 11 opening points, giving the Tomcats an 11-0 lead within the first five minutes of the game. Over the next six minutes, Thiel utilized another 9-4 run to establish their largest lead of the night, 20-4 with 8:49 remaining in the half.

Chatham countered throughout the rest of the first half on a 19-8 run, cutting Thiel's lead to 28-23 heading into the break.

In the opening 4:30 of the second half, Thiel jumped out to another double-digit lead to hold a 36-26 advantage over Chatham.

The Cougars began to claw their way back utilizing a 12-2 run to tie the game at 38 with just under 14 minutes remaining in the game.

Throughout the rest of the game, both teams would fight for an edge with the lead never exceeding more than four points. Chatham got the final upper hand with just over a minute in the game and held off Thiel's attempts to steal a win on the road.

Ricks led the Tomcats' offensive efforts with 17 points. Tejumola scored 15 points and grabbed a game-high 13 boards for his seventh double-double on the season. Gosley chipped in with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.

Chatham was led by Marcos Cintron who led all scorers with 21 points.

The Tomcats will be back in action on Saturday when they face the Grove City Wolverines on the road. The PAC matchup is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
