GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on the road Saturday to the Grove City Wolverines, 60-57.
Thiel held a 34-30 lead at halftime, but Grove City needed less than two minutes in the second half to force a tie. The Wolverines went on to lead by as many as 11 points in the second half.
The Tomcats cut the lead down to a single point (58-57) on a layup by
Chima Omeihe (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista Community) with 37 seconds remaining in regulation. Grove City turned the ball over on its next possession, but Thiel's potential game-winning shot, with two seconds remaining to play, was no good and the Wolverines went on to make a pair of free throws to preserve the conference win.
Michael Ricks (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland School of Architecture and Design) led the Tomcats with 18 points.
Ahmad Tejumola (Waldorf, Md./Saint Charles) recorded a double-double with a game-best 13 rebounds and 12 points while
Nyric Gosley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) scored 14 points and contributed eight rebounds.
James Wells scored a game-high 21 points for the Wolverines. Nate Peters and Justice Rice contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Thiel will face Waynesburg on Wednesday at Beeghly Gymnasium. The PAC game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
