WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team earned its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets during a tri-match competition on Saturday.
In game one, the Tomcats swept the Yellow Jackets three sets to none.
Courtney Grubbs (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) ensured everyone got in on the action handing out a game-high 22 assists. She also recorded a season-best five aces in the win.
Natalie Zucco (Cleveland, Ohio/North Royalton) recorded a match-best nine kills and notched four digs.
Kylee Eaton (Parker, Pa./AC Valley) tallied seven kills and an ace. Rebecca Dougherty (New Bethlehem, Pa./Redbank) was productive on both sides of the ball with five kills and assisting on two blocks.
Defensively, Taylor Williams (Tuscarawas, Ohio/Indian Valley) notched a game-high 19 digs and Raquel McDonald (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) assisted on six blocks
Thiel won each set by 10 points or more.
The Tomcats would go on to drop the next match three sets to none to the Earlham Quakers
Zucco led Thiel in the second match with a game-high 13 kills. Grubbs added 24 more assists to total 46 on the day.
Abbey Zanatta, Julia Stewart and Caroline Mulvihill led the Quakers with nine kills each. Lauren Jackson handed out a match-best 30 assists.
Williams recorded another double-digit dig performance in the loss (12).
The Tomcats are back in action on Tuesday when they host the Bethany Bison in a PAC match. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
