GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 non-conference contest to the Defiance Yellow Jackets on Wednesday.
Defiance applied the pressure early in the offensive zone earning seven corner kicks in the first 25 minutes of play. Both defensive schemes held strong playing to a scoreless first half.
Jeremy Jimenez broke the scoreless tie with a goal for the Yellow Jackets in the 59th minute.
Just one minute later, the Tomcats would respond when Bradley Novak (Wellington, Ohio/Keystone) found Evan Young (Bryans Road, Md. /Henry E. Lackey) on the end of a cross and slipped it past the Defiance goalkeeper tying the game at one.
In the 71st minute, after a failed defensive clearance, Noah Svanberg took a shot that found its way into the back of the net sealing the victory for Defiance.
Defensively, Devin Weisbarth (Akron, Ohio/Norton) recorded seven saves in the loss.
The Tomcats will open up Presidents' Athletic Conference play when they host the Grove City Wolverines on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
