WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team dropped two games of a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader to Waynesburg University on Saturday.
The Tomcats lost in a pitcher's duel in game one as Thiel starter
Sante Carducci (Toronto, Ohio/Toronto) allowed just two runs (both unearned) but Waynesburg's Mason Miller allowed just one run in seven innings to earn the win.
Thiel dropped the seven-inning contest 2-1. Thiel's lone run came in the third as
Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) doubled to score
Anthony Sebastian (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk).
The Tomcats opened game two with a solo-homerun from
Nick Fowkes (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold) to put Thiel on the board 1-0 after one. Thiel struck again in the third as
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) doubled to right to score three runs to give Thiel a 4-0 advantage.
Waynesburg answered in the bottom of the inning with three runs to make it 4-3 before the Yellow Jackets scored another run in the fourth to even the game at 4-4.
The Yellow Jackets scored two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth to take their first lead of the game, 8-4.
In the seventh, Patrice doubled again to score two runs to put Thiel within two, 8-6 before
Christian Aldrich (Cranberry Township, Pa./Central Catholic) singled up the middle to plate another run to put Thiel within one run (8-7).
Waynesburg added an insurance run in the eighth to make it 9-7 as the Tomcats could not complete the comeback and fell by a final score of 9-7.
With the pair of losses, Thiel falls to 16-22 overall and 12-11 in the PAC.
The Tomcats are back in action on Monday as they complete the three-game set with the Yellow Jackets at Tomcat Park, first pitch is set for 4 p.m.
