ERIE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team lost a pair of non-conference games on the road Sunday to the Penn State Behrend Lions. Thiel lost 9-3 in the first game before falling 7-0 in the second game.
Penn State Behrend scored six runs in the second inning of the first game, but Thiel cut the lead in half over the next two innings.
Vanessa Falce (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) knocked in a run in the third while
Quinn Ursprung (Bel Air, Md./C Milton Wright) drove in a pair of runs in the fourth on a double to center field.
The Lions refused to give up another run to the Tomcats the rest of the way and added three more runs in the sixth to win the first game of the doubleheader.
Leah Woytek (Hillsville, Pa./Mohawk) and
Megan Hepler (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) led the Tomcats with two hits apiece. Ursprung picked up two RBIs on a double in the fourth inning.
Ashtin Kirkwood (Elderton, Pa./West Shamokin) took the loss.
The Lions led 5-0 after three innings in the second game and went on to earn the win, 7-0.
Chase Gifford (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors School) led Thiel with two hits in the second game.
Madison Fullmer (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) took the loss.
The Tomcats will take on the Grove City Wolverines on the road Wednesday. The first game of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
