BETHANY, West Va. – The Thiel College baseball team fell short a season sweep of Bethany College on Sunday as the Bison took game three 6-5.
The Tomcats found themselves down 3-0 before
Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) hit a sacrifice fly to right field that put Thiel on board 3-1. Bethany would answer in the bottom of the inning with another run to extend their lead back to three runs (4-1).
Nick Fowkes (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold) collected an RBI single to pull Thiel within two (4-2) in the sixth. Lam followed up in the eighth as he belted a two-run homerun to even the game at 4-4 before
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) plated another run on a fielder's choice to give the Tomcats their first lead of the game, 5-4.
Thiel held onto a one run lead (5-4) after the eighth but were unable to add to their lead in the ninth.
With one out and one on for the Bison in the bottom of the ninth, Neil Woods hit a two run homerun to take the conference contest 6-5.
The loss snaps a season-high four game win streak for the Tomcats.
Thiel returns to action on Tuesday as they face Chatham University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Tomcat Park, first pitch for the twin-bill is set for 1 p.m.
