GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball collected their fourth straight win as they defeated Bethany College 6-3 and 7-5 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Saturday.
Thiel and Bethany each scored a run apiece in the first.
Nick Fowkes (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold) answered Bethany's run with a single up the middle that scored
Griffin Curry (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) to knot the game up at 1-1 after one.
A double-steal attempt by the Bison plated their second run of the game in the second as Bethany took a 2-1 advantage headed to the bottom of the inning.
Thiel racked up seven base hits in the inning to push across five runs to take a 6-2 lead after two. Fowkes,
Anthony Sebastian (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk),
Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro),
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST), and
Jamin Wentling (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) each earned an RBI in the inning.
Six runs would be all Tomcat starter
Sante Carducci (Toronto, Ohio/Toronto) would need as he went seven innings and allowed just two earned runs and picked up five strikeouts in the complete game victory. Thiel took game one 6-3.
In game two, Thiel blasted two homeruns as
Christian Aldrich (Cranberry Township, Pa./Central Catholic) sent a two-run shot to right field in third and
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) went yard on a solo-shot in the seventh.
Thiel owned a 7-2 lead into the ninth before Bethany plated three runs to close the gap to two runs before the Tomcats were able to close the game and pick up their second win of the day, 7-5.
Curry picked up the win in game number two as he went seven innings and racked up seven strikeouts, while allowing just two runs.
The Tomcats are back in action on Sunday as they finish their three-game set with the Bison in Bethany, West Va. in a single nine-inning contest, first pitch is set for 12 p.m.
