Thiel’s late rally not enough against Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team dropped a nonconference contest to Allegheny College on Wednesday as the Tomcats fell 6-4.

Allegheny jumped on the Tomcats in the first with four runs to take an early advantage into the second. The Gators answered with a run in the each for fourth and fifth to increase their lead to 6-0 headed to the sixth.

The Tomcats were unable to score off Allegheny's starting pitcher Jarod Deagan as he went six innings and allowed just five hits and no runs.

Thiel was able to score off the Gator bullpen in the seventh as Andrew Giesey (Penn, Pa./Penn Trafford) singled through the left side to score Nash Matson (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) to put the Tomcats on the board. Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) followed up later in the inning with a two-run single to make it 6-3.

Matson added another run in the eighth as he doubled to left field to score Jamin Wentling (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) to reduce the Gator lead to just two (6-4) after eight.

Despite the late inning offense, the Tomcats were unable to complete the comeback as they were set down in order in the ninth to seal the loss.

With the loss, Thiel falls to 16-18 on the season. Thiel continues nonconference action on Saturday as they host Thomas More University for a doubleheader at Tomcat Park, first pitch is set for 1 p.m.

Before game one of the doubleheader Thiel will honor the senior members of the team.
