Carducci goes the distance, Thiel wins 6-2

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team defeated Westminster College 6-2 on Monday to move to 16-17 overall and 12-9 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
 
Thiel starter Sante Carducci (Toronto, Ohio/Toronto) earned his second straight complete game victory as the sophomore tossed nine innings and allowed just two runs on three hits.
 
The Tomcats recorded three runs in the first as Joe Mott (Kinsman, Ohio/Badger) singled up the middle to score both Nick Fowkes (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold) and Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro), while Christian Aldrich (Cranberry Township, Pa./Central Catholic) hit a sacrifice fly that scored Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) to make it 3-0 in favor of Thiel.
 
Lam added a run in the second as he singled to right to score Nash Matson (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) to put Thiel in front 4-0.
 
The Titans broke up Carducci's no-hit and shutout bid in the fifth and scored again in the sixth off a solo-homerun from Dawson Porter to cut the lead to two runs (4-2).
 
The Tomcats answered with two runs in the seventh to as both Fowkes and Lam drove in a run each to make it 6-2.
 
Carducci's last complete game victory came against Chatham University in Thiel's 10-1 win last week.
 
With the win, Thiel takes the season series against Westminster 2-1. The Tomcats are back in action tomorrow as they face nonconference opponent Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa. first pitch for nine inning contest is set for 3 p.m.
