Wentling homers twice against SVC

LATROBE, Pa. The Thiel College baseball team were defeated 6-5 and 12-5 by Saint Vincent College on Tuesday afternoon in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader.

Jamin Wentling (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) blasted his first homerun of the year to take a 1-0 advantage in the first, Saint Vincent would answer in the bottom of the inning to even the game at 1-1.

A pair of runs from the Bearcats made it 3-1 in the third before scoring another two runs in the fifth to make it 5-1.

The Tomcats struck back in the seventh as Wentling drove in another run on a single to right field and Nick Fowkes (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold) singled to the left side to put Thiel down 5-3.

SVC's Bobby Finn blasted a solo-homerun in the seventh to build the Bearcats lead to 6-3. Thiel scored two runs in the eighth as Griffin Curry (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) singled down the right line to make it 6-5. Thiel's comeback fell short as the Bearcats took game one, 6-5.

The Tomcats jumped out to another early lead in game two as Joe Mott (Kinsman, Ohio/Badger) singled to left field to score Fowkes, Thiel led 1-0 after one.

Wentling went yard again in the second as he drove in a trio of Tomcats to make it 4-0 in favor of Thiel after two.

Despite the early deficit Saint Vincent railed to score 10 unanswered runs to take a decisive 10-5 lead going into the sixth. SVC would go on to take the seven inning game, 12-5.

The Tomcats are back in action tomorrow as they face Grove City College in a nine-inning contest at Tomcat Park, first pitch is set for 4 p.m.
