Tomcats use sixth inning rally to pull away from Wolverines

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team picked up their first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win of the season on Wednesday as they defeated Grove City College, 11-3.

After a scoreless first, Grove City's Jesse Clary singled to center field to score a run to put the Wolverines up 1-0.

Thiel knotted the game up at 1-1 in the second as Christian Aldirch scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the inning. Thiel struck again in the fifth to take their first lead of the game as Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) doubled to left field to drive in Griffin Curry (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell), Thiel led 2-1 after five.

A five-run sixth inning was the difference in the game as Thiel built a six-run lead it would not relinquish en route to their first PAC victory of the season.

Tomcat starter Will Brandsema (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek) went 6.0 innings and allowed just three runs as he collected his second win of the season.

The Tomcats added four runs in the seventh to take the nine-inning contest, 11-3.

Curry and Aldrich both had three hits apiece, while Lam, Jamin Wentling (Greenville, Pa./Greenville), and Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) each collected two hits, respectively. Lam and Curry also drove in three RBIs each in the conference win.

The Tomcats are back in action tomorrow as they face Saint Vincent College at Tomcat Park for the final game of a three-game set with Bearcats, first pitch is set for 4 p.m.
