GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game to the Chatham Cougars Thursday night at Alumni Stadium, 10-9.
The Tomcats trailed the Cougars 7-5 at halftime. Chatham opened the third quarter with a pair of goals to increase its lead to 9-5, but Thiel scored three straight goals to enter the fourth quarter trailing by a goal, 9-8.
Andrew Mattingly scored with 6:02 remaining in the fourth quarter to increase Chatham's lead to 10-8. The Tomcats got back within a goal with 4:37 left in regulation on a goal by
Desmond Stuart (Roanoke, Va./Salem), but they couldn't come up with the equalizer down the stretch.
Stuart paced the Tomcats with four points (2G, 2A) while
Jeffrey Karnoff (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) tallied three points (2G, 1A).
Kenny Hill (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) and
Andrew Monks (Butler, Pa./Butler) scored two goals apiece.
Jack Fontana (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted) won 12-of-22 faceoffs and scooped up nine ground balls.
Sheldon Bourdeau (Clarkston, MI/Clarkston) recorded seven ground balls.
Kyle Rullan led the Cougars with five points (2G, 3A) while Will Petraglia scored three goals.
Cole O'Connor (Midlothian, Va./James River) made 26 saves in the loss. He also scored a goal in the second quarter from roughly 70 yards out. Shane Gaglione made 10 saves for Chatham.
Thiel (7-6, 2-3 PAC) will take on the Saint Vincent Bearcats (6-7, 4-1 PAC) on the road on Thursday. The PAC game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
