NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Thursday afternoon as they lost game one 6-7 before taking game two 8-1.
Thiel opened game one with a 2-0 lead in the first before Westminster answered in the bottom of the inning to even the game at 2-2 after one.
Westminster scored three runs in the fourth to take a 5-2 advantage into the fifth.
Anthony Sebastian's (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) sacrifice fly in the fifth pulled Thiel within two (5-3) and a pair of singles from
Nick Fowkes (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold) and
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) scored three to give the Tomcats the lead once again (6-5).
The Titans scored on an error in the seventh to push the seven-inning PAC contest into extras.
After a single from
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) in the eighth the Tomcats went down in order as the game remained tied 6-6 with Westminster due up.
With two outs in the eighth the Titans strung together two hits to take the game 7-6 to spoil the Tomcat's six-game win streak.
Thiel wasted little time scoring in game two as the Tomcats recorded four runs in both the first and second to take a commanding 8-2 lead.
Thiel went on to take game two 16-7.
On the day Patrice collected seven RBIs, while
Nick Fowkes (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold) drove in six runs.
With the split, Thiel now stands at 15-17 overall and 11-9 in the PAC.
The Tomcats are back in action on Monday as they complete their three-game set with Westminster at Tomcat Park, first pitch is set for 2 p.m.
