GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team edged the Chatham Cougars 19-18 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium.
Lexi Callander (Knox, Pa./Keystone) and
Erica Auberzinski (Odenton, Md./Arundel) each scored a goal late in the first half to give the Tomcats a 12-11 lead at halftime.
Chatham's Rachel Borucki tied up the game 13 seconds into the second half (12-12), but Thiel responded with five consecutive goals and never lost the lead the rest of the game.
Freshman
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western ) led the Tomcats with eight points (4G, 4A). She also controlled 12 draws, picked up four ground balls and caused three turnovers.
Paige Scherer (Cranberry, Pa./Seneca Valley) recorded five points (4G, 1A) while also contributing 10 draw controls.
Callander and Auberzinski scored four goals apiece.
Mackenzie Quinn (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) tallied four points (2G, 2A), controlled three draws and caused three turnovers.
Claire Norton paced the Cougars with eight points (6G, 2A) while Borucki notched seven points (5G, 2A).
Emily Ramous (Bridgeville, Pa./Chartiers Valley) made 10 saves to earn the win. Sam Miller made 14 saves in the loss.
The Tomcats (8-6, 3-2 PAC) will face the Saint Vincent Bearcats (2-7, 2-3 PAC) on the road on Tuesday, April 23. The PAC game will begin at 4 p.m.
