PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team defeated Chatham University 10-1 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest on Wednesday night for their sixth straight conference win.
Thiel opened the scoring in the first as
Nick Fowkes (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold) grounded out to first to push across
Anthony Sebastian (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) to make it 1-0 in favor of Thiel after one.
Thiel answered again in the second as an infield grounder from
Griffin Curry (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) drove in Aldrich to build Thiel's lead to 2-0.
Two runs would be all Tomcat Starter
Sante Carducci (Toronto, Ohio/Toronto) would need as he would go pitch a complete game, while allowing just one run on three hits to collect the win.
Thiel used a six-run seventh inning to put the game out of reach as
Andrew Giesey (Penn, Pa./Penn Trafford) recorded his first triple of the year in the inning.
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) recorded three hits on the day with two RBIs. Aldrich, Sebastian,
Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro),
Joe Mott (Kinsman, Ohio/Badger), and
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) each racked up two hits apiece in the PAC victory.
With the win, Thiel improves to 14-16 and 10-8 in the PAC.
The Tomcats return to action tomorrow as they face Westminster College in a PAC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. in New Wilmington, Pa.
