GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team earned a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference wins Saturday over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets at Tomcat Park. Thiel won the first game 8-0 in six innings before picking up a 4-2 win in the second game.
The Tomcats, who are riding a 4-game winning streak, improved to 7-3 in the PAC with Saturday's wins.
Thiel led 5-0 after two innings in the first game.
Miranda Reesman (Vandergrift, Pa./Leechburg) hit a 2-RBI single in the first while
Bailey Hoover (Smock, Pa./Uniontown) also picked up an RBI.
Jessica Kelley (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) pushed two more runs across the plate in the second on a single to right field.
Vanessa Falce (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) made it a 6-0 game in the fourth after hitting an RBI-double to center field.
The Tomcats ended the first game in the sixth inning after Reesman hit a 2-RBI single down the left field line.
Thiel recorded 14 hits in the first game. Kelley went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs while Reesman went 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
Kelley tossed an 8-hit shutout. She allowed one walk and struck out one batter.
Thiel eked out a run in the second inning of the second game on a groundout by
Megan Hepler (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau). The Yellow Jackets plated two runs in the top of the third, but Thiel got those runs back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI by Kelley and a sacrifice fly by Falce.
In the fourth,
Madison Fullmer (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) gave the Tomcats an insurance run on an RBI-single up the middle.
Fullmer, who started and earned the win, allowed one earned run on eight hits. She struck out two batters in four innings of work. Kelley, who refused to allow a run in three innings of relief, picked up the save.
Kelley and Fullmer both went 2-for-3 in the second game with one RBI apiece.
Fullmer, Kelley, Reesman and
Quinn Ursprung (Bel Air, Md./C Milton Wright) were all honored during Senior Day Saturday.
The Tomcats (13-19, 7-3 PAC) will host the Saint Vincent Bearcats (20-10, 8-0 PAC) Tuesday at Tomcat Park. The first game of the PAC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
