GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team split a doubleheader Tuesday against the Saint Vincent Bearcats at Tomcat Park. Thiel won the first game 6-1 but fell 10-1 in the second game.
Thiel plated three runs in the first inning of the first game.
Vanessa Falce (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) drove in a run on a single to left field, and
Megan Hepler (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) followed with a 2-RBI single to left center field.
Thiel eked out a run in the second inning and scored two more runs in the fifth inning. In the fifth,
Allyssa Kidwell (Fort Mohave, Ariz./Mohave Accelerated) hit an RBI-double while Hepler notched her third RBI of the game on a single to center field.
Hepler went 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the first game. Falce and Kidwell both tallied a pair of hits and one RBI.
Jessica Kelley (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) earned the win. She allowed one run on seven hits.
The Tomcats got off to a good start in the second game when Falce hit a first-inning solo homer over the left field fence. However, Saint Vincent went on to score 10 unanswered runs to end the contest in five innings.
Falce hit a home run and a double in the second game.
Miranda Reesman (Vandergrift, Pa./Leechburg) hit a pair of singles.
Thiel (14-20, 8-4 PAC) is scheduled to host the Penn State Beaver Lions Thursday at Tomcat Park. The first game of the non-conference doubleheader will begin at 3:30 p.m.
