Tomcats split series with Bearcats

Falce hits third homer of season

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team split a doubleheader Tuesday against the Saint Vincent Bearcats at Tomcat Park. Thiel won the first game 6-1 but fell 10-1 in the second game.

Thiel plated three runs in the first inning of the first game. Vanessa Falce (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) drove in a run on a single to left field, and Megan Hepler (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) followed with a 2-RBI single to left center field.

Thiel eked out a run in the second inning and scored two more runs in the fifth inning. In the fifth, Allyssa Kidwell (Fort Mohave, Ariz./Mohave Accelerated) hit an RBI-double while Hepler notched her third RBI of the game on a single to center field.

Hepler went 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the first game. Falce and Kidwell both tallied a pair of hits and one RBI.

Jessica Kelley (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) earned the win. She allowed one run on seven hits.

The Tomcats got off to a good start in the second game when Falce hit a first-inning solo homer over the left field fence. However, Saint Vincent went on to score 10 unanswered runs to end the contest in five innings.
