Fowkes hits for the cycle as Thiel sweeps Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Thiel College baseball senior outfielder Nick Fowkes (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold) collected a cycle in Thiel's second game of a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Saturday.

Thiel took game one 6-4 before taking game two in decisive fashion, 14-0.

In game two, Fowkes singled in the first, homered in the fifth, doubled in the sixth, and tripled in the seventh to complete the cycle. Fowkes racked up a game-high five RBIs as the Tomcats cruised to a 14-0 victory to sweep the season series with Geneva.

Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro), Joe Mott (Kinsman, Ohio/Badger), and Andrew Giesey (Penn, Pa./Penn Trafford) each recorded multi-hit games in the conference victory. Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) collected his first homerun of the year as he belted a solo-shot to left in the sixth.

Griffin Curry (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) earned the win in game one, while Will Brandsema (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek) picked up the win in game two. Myles Metz (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) came in for the save in game one to seal Thiel's 6-4 win.

Brandsema tossed six scoreless innings and retired five Golden Tornadoes on strikes en route to his third win of the year.

With the pair of wins, Thiel improves to 13-16 overall and 9-8 in the PAC. Thiel has now won nine of ten conference games since starting the season 0-7 in PAC play.
